A friend of mine wanted me to try CrossFit with her. I immediately thought “there is no way.” It has been a really long time since I’ve been to a gym and those people know what they’re doing. They’re athletes! I was extremely nervous and came up with every excuse I could to say no.
When I first got there, I noticed it was a big class. I was so nervous and the only person I knew at the time was my friend Kala. The class started and I caught myself getting winded quickly but I kept pushing through. The class was unlike anything I had ever done before. It incorporated full body exercises and worked muscles I didn’t know I could. But the biggest thing of all was that it was FUN! It was hard and yet I knew I needed to go back again. Everyone was so nice and talked to me as if it was not my first class but like I had been there for many before.
My personal Bright Spot I think would be just completing my first class to begin with. Now I feel stronger every time I go. We learn so many new things when attending class. Whether its tweaking a movement to enhance our form/technique or learning how to work with a partner.
Personally, I’d like to make it to class more often. I’d like to increase the weight on some of my movements/lifts. I mean, who doesn’t right? Now only that but ultimately I just want to feel stronger.
If I could go back in time, some advice would be to stop worrying about what others are going to think. You have your own goals to accomplish and you are the only person who can do that. Most of the members in class with you are doing the same thing. They’re not worried about how many reps you are doing or the weights you are grabbing. They’ve got tunnel vision just like you so KEEP PUSHING! Get out of your own head.
